Inclusive Language
Learning about and using language that is inclusive to individuals with disabilities creates a loving & respectful environment. It is important to engage in open discussions about these terms in order to nurture a sense of belonging for all individuals, as well as create positive interactions in all settings.

Community Integration:
A process that involves individuals with various backgrounds, abilities, and needs becoming active and valued members of their local communities. It focuses on breaking down barriers and promoting social inclusion.
Inclusion:
A principle and practice that promotes the full participation, acceptance, and involvement of all individuals, regardless of their differences, in all aspects of society. Inclusion aims to create an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone is treated with respect and equality.
Intellectual and Developmental Disability:
Broad categories of lifelong conditions that affect a person's cognitive and adaptive functioning.
Vocational Skills:
Specific abilities and knowledge that enable individuals to perform tasks and responsibilities in a particular profession, trade, or occupation. Vocational skills are typically practical and directly applicable to the workplace.
Work-Based Learning:
This can provide individuals with disabilities opportunities to practice vocational skills, as well as practice disclosing their disabilities and requesting accommodations from employers. It also helps individuals explore different types of accommodations that can be offered.
Community Integration involves:

Community integration emphasizes the full inclusion and participation of individuals in all aspects of community life, including social, educational, recreational, and employment opportunities.

Recognizing and respecting the cultural diversity within a community is essential to achieving true integration.

The process empowers individuals to make choices, take control of their lives, and build their skills to lead more independent and self-directed lives.
